Kiss Scenes That Were Never Supposed To Happen

Photo: Twitter.com/ShayBSpears

Romances in entertainment are often pivotal to driving a story forward. Often the writers will purposely prevent two characters from getting together to build on the tension even more. It’s tough for fans to endure, making them shout at the screen, “When will they get together?”

Finally, when the writers decide it’s time to give the payoff, viewers are rewarded with a meaningful kiss. The actors may know what’s coming based on the storyline, but sometimes these smooches come unexpectedly, and are even improvised by one of the actors. Check out which of the most iconic kiss-scenes in Hollywood history were actually impromptu actions that weren’t written into the script…

ER

Sometimes a scripted and intended kissing scene still comes as a big surprise to viewers. The perfect example of this is the final goodbye between Dr. Doug Ross (George Clooney) and nurse Carol Hathaway (Juliana Margulies) in the hit show ER. Romantic tension was high between the two characters during the course of the show.

To the dismay of many fans however, Clooney left the series, crushing the dream that his relationship with nurse Hathaway would go any further. When Margulies decided to take her leave of the show a few seasons later, the writers gave viewers the kiss they’d been waiting for by having Clooney make a special and surprising reappearance.

In Lost in Translation, Bill Murray plays aging Hollywood actor Bob Harris, opposite the young and beautiful college graduate, Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson). The two develop an unlikely friendship in Tokyo, Japan, of all places. The culmination of the movie includes a touching scene that includes a poignant kiss.

Apparently, Johansson had no idea that a kiss was coming, since it wasn’t in the script at all. It was a spur of the moment peck that director Sofia Coppola ended up loving and keeping. Scarlett’s surprised and unscripted reaction to the kiss only added even more authenticity to the film.

Friends

Many Friends fans were gunning hard for a romantic relationship between characters Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston). Their dramatic and long-awaited kiss came as a welcome surprise to viewers early on the series.

However, Ross and Rachel’s much anticipated relationship seemed to be anything but stable. It was plagued with drama and distractions. Despite all that, Rachel decides at the end of the show to give up her dream job in Paris to stay with Ross.

The movie follows the struggles of the two and their vastly different personalities. In the end, the two realize they’re willing to make sacrifices to be with each other, which culminates in a surprising make-over for Sandy and the realization of them as a couple.

Frasier

On Frasier, Niles’ (David Hyde Pierce) secret feelings for Daphne (Jane Leeves) were a driving plot theme throughout the show’s duration. Even though Niles falls for Daphne in the third episode of the show, nothing serious would come of it for several seasons.

Niles is married at the start of the show and Daphne is dating other men throughout it. However, his feelings are obvious – to everyone except Daphne. His long-awaited confession leads to a passionate and surprising kiss that finally satisfied many yearning fans.

Edge Of Tomorrow

In the movie, Edge of Tomorrow, Tom Cruise plays Major William Cage who is caught in a time loop the keeps sending him back to the day before he died in battle. Cage enlists the aid of Special Forces agent Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) to help him get out of this crazy loop and simultaneously save humanity from some creepy aliens.

The filmmakers wanted a kiss between Tom and Emily to happen, but there just didn’t seem to be a perfect time for it. Luckily, Emily made the decision easy when she planted a surprise kiss on Tom while filming. The surprise worked and became a permanent part of movie history.

How I Met Your Mother

Fans of the hit show, How I Met Your Mother, were beginning to wonder if they would ever find out who the mother of Ted’s children actually was. The show certainly took their sweet time about revealing the answer, that’s for sure. In fact, they waited all the way until the show’s final season.

In what seems like a date-gone-wrong, Ted is out with Tracy, whom he met three days prior at a wedding. Tracy is fresh off a major break-up in which she has turned down a proposal of marriage and is not looking for anything new. In a surprise twist, the two end up sharing a passionate kiss after she calls Ted back as he’s walking away for the night. The rest is history.

The Edge

Supermodel Elle Macpherson hadn’t done much acting work when she was cast in 1997’s The Edge, in which she plays Mickey, the young wife of older billionaire Charles Morse (Anthony Hopkins).  The two shared a surprise kiss, but not where you would expect.

The kiss actually happened during Macpherson’s audition for the part. Casting directors wanted to ensure a feeling of connection between the two characters, despite a 27-year age difference. Since she was new to acting, Elle wasn’t sure if she should kiss with or without some tongue action, so she went bold. She reported that Hopkins was quite flustered, but she got the job.

Orange Is The New Black

Fans of the Netflix series Orange is the New Black know that it follows Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) as she lands herself in prison with her ex-girlfriend, Alex (Laura Prepon). With Piper being in jail thanks to Alex’s criminal dealings, it seems like an insurmountable obstacle to have the two reconcile.

Fans were rooting for the couple to come back together, but it was still a huge surprise when they were rewarded with a racy kiss the two women shared in the prison’s chapel.

The X-Files

Photo: Twitter.com/@dailygilliana

The popular and iconic show, The X-Files, follows FBI agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) as they attempt to explain supernatural phenomena. With a slight underlying current of romantic tension between the two, fans of the show were rooting for them to become an item.

It wasn’t meant to be, as the show’s creator was dead set against the typical co-workers-turned-lovers plot theme. So, when Mulder and Scully share a passionate kiss in an alternate universe scene in season seven, fans got a small teaser of what it would look like if the two characters became romantically-linked.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

During the goodbye scene in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Luke (Mark Hamill) is saying a poignant goodbye to his sister Leia (Carrie Fisher). Just before he turns to leave, Luke places a loving kiss on Leia’s forehead. According to Hamill, that kiss was a spur of the moment, genuine gesture.

While filming the scene and reflecting on the fact that this would be Luke’s final goodbye to his sister, the actor felt all the feels wrapped up in letting go of a character he had played from such a young age. No one could know that Carrie Fisher would pass away before the release of that film, making that particular scene one that Hamill can’t even bear to watch to this day.

Love Actually

In the film, Love Actually, Andrew Lincoln’s character is in love with his best friend’s wife, played by Keira Knightley. In a memorable scene, he shows up at their home to which Knightley answers the door. So as not to alert his friend, Lincoln’s character professes his love for Knightley’s character through a series of silent cue cards that he makes her read.

This revelation and subsequent betrayal of his friendship ends with him receiving a surprise kiss from Keira. While this seems sweet, it’s not great message about fidelity of marriage.

American Hustle

In American Hustle, con artist Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), his partner and lover Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams), and his wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) are involved in some questionable activities.  While the film focuses mainly on Irving’s relationships with the two women and his professional scams, there is a surprising interaction between Sydney and Rosalyn.

The scene is marked by an impromptu and shocking kiss shared by the two women. Apparently, the kiss was Adams’ idea, but the execution of it by Lawrence came as a surprise to all. Needless to say, the kiss worked great and became one of the film’s most iconic scenes.

Cheers

The back-and-forth banter between Sam (Ted Danson) and Diane (Shelley Long) on the first season of Cheers was one of the show’s main comical plot points. Despite it, fans could sense an underlying current of chemistry that made them hope for a romance of some sort between the two.

However, that relationship took a turn at a very unexpected time. At the end of season one, Sam and Diane are involved in a heated argument that doesn’t show any real resolution. The sudden and unexpected embrace and passionate kiss made for a very exciting and gratifying moment for fans.

Top Gun

In Top Gun, the scene in which Charlie (Kelly McGillis) tells Maverick (Tom Cruise) that she doesn’t want people to find out about her unprofessional feelings towards him is a well known. Cruise grabs Kelly’s face in the middle of her diatribe and interrupts her with a passionate kiss…which was totally unscripted.

In actuality, the conversation between the two was supposed to have a different conclusion, but Cruise had forgotten his lines. So, instead of having to shoot the scene all over again, he just decided to kiss. The director loved it and the rest, as they say, is history.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Photo: Twitter.com/itschristopherr

The love story between Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala is pivotal plot point in the Star Wars prequels. In Attack of the Clones, the two fight their growing feelings for each other, realizing how complicated and unrealistic a relationship between them would be. So, their initial kiss isn’t what comes as a big surprise to viewers.

The surprise is the sheer lack of chemistry the two actors share on-screen and the awkwardness of their situation.  This romance is almost painful for many fans to watch, which is also a disappointing surprise for diehard lovers of the historic franchise.

The Office

Photo: YouTube.com/The Office

Part of the success of The Office can be chalked up to the fact that much of it was improvised and unscripted. But one of the funniest unscripted moments occurred between Oscar Martinez (Oscar Nuñez) and Michael Scott (Steve Carell). When Michael learns that Oscar isn’t straight, he really goes the extra mile to prove how accepting and supportive he is.

So much so, that he ends up giving Oscar a very awkward and cringe-worthy kiss on the lips to prove his point. According to Oscar, he and Steve were merely supposed to hug during that scene and was completely shocked when Steve took it to the next level and kissed him.

Gigli

While the film Gigli was panned by critics and fans across the board, it had a surprise outcome that perhaps no one could have predicted. Starring Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, the movie revolves around a mobster who has kidnapped a mentally-challenged child. It’s a violent and gory flick that doesn’t leave a lot of room for romance.

That didn’t stop the film’s writers from trying to incorporate one into the plot anyway, though. Not surprisingly, this attempt falls flat on its face. The big surprise? That lack of romantic chemistry on-set certainly didn’t carry over to real life, as Ben and Jennifer fell in love during filming and became one of Hollywood’s hottest couples of the time.

New Girl

Photo: Twitter.com/@New_GirlTV

New Girl is another show that relies heavily on improvisation to add to its comedic value. That improv often involves kissing for characters Nick (Jake Johnson) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield). Johnson has even said that Greenfield has kissed him more often than any woman he’s actually dated.

Their first kiss was a huge surprise, even to them. In the first season, Schmidt finds out that Nick has a serious medical condition, He goes into a frenzy, kissing Nick hard on the mouth. This scene was included in the final cut and has since led to frequent impromptu kisses between the two.

Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls chronicles the lives of Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) and her mother Lorelai (Lauren Graham). While there’s plenty of action surrounding Rory’s relationships, fans were really drawn into the dynamic between Lorelai and local diner owner, Luke (Scott Patterson).

The two really started off as being good friends, but their romantic tension became a constant plot theme that had fans fervently hoping that the two would end up together. Fans had to wait four seasons but were finally rewarded with a surprising and passionate kiss at the end of the season.

Jurassic World

Sometimes a kiss is only a surprise to one of the parties involved, which can make for some very genuine and good footage. That’s exactly what happened in the kiss between Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) in Jurassic World

There was no kiss in the original script, but on the final day of filming, the director quietly suggested to Pratt that he should kiss Howard in the final take of that particular scene. However, he didn’t let Howard in on the plan, and that surprise kiss is the one you see in the film’s final cut.

Passengers

Passengers stars Chris Pratt as Jim, and Jennifer Lawrence, as Aurora. Jim is an engineer on a spaceship who unexpectedly wakes up in the middle of a 240-year sleep on the way to his new home. With 90 years left before he arrives there, Jim realizes he will die on the ship all alone.  That is, until he sees Aurora.

In what seems to be a surprisingly short struggle with morality, Jim decides to wake up the sleeping beauty so he can have some companionship. This selfish act effectively ends Aurora’s chances of getting to her destination also. So, it comes as a huge surprise when the two fall in love and share a passionate kiss.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2

It’s no surprise that actors often fall for each other during filming. Sometimes, it is a surprise to one of them, however. In this case, Woody Harrelson who plays Haymitch Abernathy in the movie series The Hunger Games ended up developing a real-life crush on his co-star Elizabeth Banks, who plays Effie Trinket.

Apparently, this crush was news to Banks, but it became known to all when Harrelson planted an overly sweet and very unscripted kiss on Banks at the end of the final movie, Mockingjay: Part 2. Harrelson has admitted using his character and that final scene to make his real-life desire known.

Stranger Things

In the second season of the hit Netflix show, Stranger Things, romance blossoms between Max (Sadie Sink) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin).  The season culminates with the two characters sharing an impromptu and sweet kiss. However, the lead up to that kiss wasn’t so sweet, apparently.

The kiss wasn’t written into the original script, but showrunners suggested it would be a good idea. Unfortunately, the thought of it was pretty stressful to Sadie. While Sadie stated she was uncomfortable with the kiss itself, she also stated that she never felt pressured into anything, but fans seemed to think differently.

Room With A View

In one of Helena Bonham Carter’s earliest movies, she plays Lucy Honeychurch in Room with a View. At the fresh age of 18, Carter stars opposite Julian Sands, who plays her friend George. While Lucy and George are chatting, the two share an intense kiss.

The young Helena didn’t have much on-screen or real-life experience with kissing, and she was surprised when the production crew suggested the scene. Not one to ever shy away from a challenge, Helena went with it, and described the kiss that made the final cut as completely improvised and a little awkward.

The Good Wife

Juliana Margulies is a great on-screen kisser, as is further illustrated in the season two finale of The Good Wife. Early in the show’s run, Margulies’ character goes to work for her ex-boyfriend from law school.  Underlying tensions are high in the series,  fans are poised for a romantic turn.

After two full years with nothing to report, and just as fans are beginning to lose hope that the two will ever get together, they’re rewarded with a steamy and exciting elevator kiss at the end of the season.

Teen Wolf

The well-received MTV series, Teen Wolf, centers around high schoolers in a small town who are bombarded by supernatural events. One of the key plot lines is the friendship between the beautiful Lydia Martin (Holland Roden) and the nerdy and socially-awkward Stiles Stilinski (Dylan O’Brien).

The couple’s friendship may have never burgeoned into an on-screen romance if it hadn’t been for Dylan’s unscripted and surprise peck on Holland’s cheek that made it into the final cut of the episode. After that, fans of the show became obsessed with the development of their romance.

The Mummy

Photo: Twitter.com/hollywoodagegap

Sometimes there is a forced on-screen relationship in a movie, like between Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis in the recent iteration of The Mummy. This action film didn’t necessarily need a romance to further the plot at all, and in fact, many critics feel the film would have been better without it.

Critical reception felt that there wasn’t any real romantic chemistry there, and that lack of bond between the two made for a forced and awkward interaction that fans seemed to dislike.

The Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is a classic ’80s movie about how characters have more in common than you would think. Claire (Molly Ringwald) and Bender (Judd Nelson) not only form a bond, but they ended up sharing a kiss at the end.  This kiss comes as unexpected because of the blatant animosity and hatred between the two characters throughout the entire film.

There wasn’t really a cathartic moment by which to mark a changing of the tide for the two to make amends. Even though the two share an impromptu kiss, with all the issues they each have going on, it’s unlikely to ever become more than that.

Pretty Woman

Pretty Woman is a sort of Cinderella story in which Vivian (Julia Roberts) is a prostitute taken off the streets to work for rich, good-looking entrepreneur, Edward (Richard Gere). Vivian is a leggy and beautiful street-smart girl from the wrong side of the tracks and Edward is a silver-spooned ivy league graduate.

As the two get closer and closer throughout the film’s duration, Vivian holds fast to her rule about not kissing her clients on the mouth, so it comes as a pleasant surprise when she decides to land a tentative and sweet kiss on Edward’s mouth while he sleeps. Their great on-screen chemistry helps make this a classic romantic comedy.

In Gone with the Wind, the main characters Rhett and Scarlett just can’t seem to ever get it together. Fans are hoping for a fairytale ending for the two, but it just isn’t in the cards.  There are several surprising and steamy kisses throughout this epic film, however.  A passionate kiss between Rhett and Scarlett, as well as a stolen kiss between Scarlett and her love Ashley, who is married to another woman.

The volatile and manipulative relationship between Rhett and Scarlett drags on and is marked with ups and downs and tragedies throughout. By the time Scarlett realizes her love for Rhett at the end of this seemingly endless film, it’s somewhat of a let down to viewers.

Bridgerton

Bridgerton has become one of the hottest and most watched series on Netflix, drawing over 82 million viewers. It’s got some famously racy and passionate scenes as the characters try to navigate finding love. The plot lines and intimate scenes are par for the course with producers like Netflix and come as no surprise to seasoned viewers.

What is a big surprise is that many of those intimate scenes are not impromptu, but the actors have rehearsed them repeatedly in order to promote realism and effortless authenticity.

Glee

Glee was a musical television show about a high school glee club. Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) takes over management of the club after its former teacher Sandy Ryerson (Stephen Toblowsky) is fired over inappropriate conduct with a student.

In its first season, Will and another teacher, Emma (Jayma Mays) exchange a racy kiss, which came as a complete surprise to Mays. The director had told Morrison to plant one on the surprised Mays, and her reaction is real and priceless.

22 Jump Street is the sequel to the surprising hit 21 Jump Street, featuring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. In this scene, Jonah Hill plays as an undercover cop and Jillian Bell plays a wary college student. The two have some funny and snippy banter throughout the film and one point, Jillian’s character is seen goading Jonah Hill into hitting her.

While the two don’t actually kiss, the improvised scene is too comical and surprising not to include. The two start wailing on each other then accuse each of other of trying to kiss them, then go back to fighting again.

Doctor Who

While the jury’s still out as to whether the desperate kiss between actress Billie Piper and David Tennant in an episode of Doctor Who was scripted or completely impromptu, one thing that wasn’t scripted was David Tennant’s comment following the now famous smooch.

The couple had been known to have a certain level of romantic tension throughout the show’s history, but where this kiss was placed came at a complete surprise to fans, and it to David Tennant, too it seems, based on his reaction. His post kiss comment of, “Yup, still got it,” was hilarious and spot-on.

Game of Thrones

Photo: Twitter.com/jaimelvannister

While many fans weren’t gushing about season seven on Game of Thrones, they were gushing over an impromptu kiss between Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan) and Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma). The best part? This kiss was totally unscripted.

The scene only called for some light flirting between the two characters, but as they got into it more, they just decided to play it out and see what would happen. When the kiss worked so well, Varma then had to believably re-enact it with an unsuspecting stunt double for editing purposes.

The Mindy Project

By the second season of The Mindy Project, fans as well as producers of the show could sense the undeniable bond between actors Chris Messina, who plays Danny, and Mindy Kaling, who plays Mindy. The two characters weren’t meant to have a romantic relationship in any of the scripted plot lines.

However, with chemistry that good between the two, the writers made a surprising turn when Danny jumped up from his seat in the middle of a flight home from their business trip and passionately kissed Mindy, thus solidifying a romance between the two.

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the hero Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) has an on-screen romance with Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone). What some people don’t know is that the two were actually dating in real life as well.

During the graduation scene in the movie, Peter missed Gwen’s valedictory address. To make up for it, he bounded up to the stage and to sweep her into a passionate kiss in front of everyone. That was completely unscripted and definitely took Emma Stone (and everyone else) by surprise.

Riverdale

In Riverdale’s special musical episode that pays homage to cult classic, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”, actor Casey Cott plays Hedwig. In the original show, Hedwig spontaneously kisses a random member of the audience, so Cott thought he’d seize the moment and do the same.

He chose fellow actor A.J. Apa, who plays Archie, to be the one. Cott plants a big kiss on Apa’s cheek in the first take. During the second take, Apa surprises everyone by suddenly turning his head and getting a big fat kiss on the lips. The director loved the improvisation.

At the end of the third season of  Person of Interest, Joss Carter (Taraji P. Henson) gave a tearful farewell to her costar Jim Caviezel, who plays John Reese. That scene contains a very surprising and very emotional kiss.

Henson stated that Jim came over to her and started to suggest an addition to the scene, but she didn’t want to know ahead of time what it was so that their reactions could be more believable. The kiss ended up being the icing on the cake of a very raw and real scene.

The Last Song

In the romantic film, The Last Song, based on the Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth play a couple. While the film was universally trashed by critics, it was a huge hit for Cyrus and Hemsworth in more ways than one.

In one scene, there is a touching kiss between Miley and Liam that wasn’t in the script. The director gave an impromptu command for the two to kiss and when they did, sparks flew on set and in real life. The two actors were romantically linked for 10 years following the filming of this movie.

Independence Day

Unfortunately, not all unscripted spur-of-the-moment kisses make it into a film’s final cut. That’s exactly what happened in Independence Day. Only die-hard fans know of the kiss between the characters of Jeff Goldblum and Harvey Fierstein since it wasn’t in the theatrical release.

The impromptu kiss did end up making it off the cutting room floor and into the extended Blu-ray edition of the movie, however. Many feel it was a scene that always should have been there, as the unplanned event and the actors’ reactions to it are cinema gold.

Carefree

The truly iconic Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers appeared together in several RKO Pictures’ films during the 1930s. The level of chemistry and familiarity the two actors shared has rarely been seen in generations since these two legends set the bar so high.

According to a fan site that’s devoted to the legendary couple, they had such amazing chemistry that they share a completely spontaneous kiss in the movie, Carefree. This was a very bold move back in the day, but the kiss worked perfectly and ended up becoming permanently etched in the annals of great movie moments.

All In The Family*

Perhaps one of the funniest and most controversial unplanned smooches of the time occurred between Rat Pack legend, Sammy Davis Jr. and All in the Family star Carol O’Connor, who played the show’s figurehead, Archie Bunker.

In a then-ground-breaking episode, Sammy gives Carroll a great big, completely unscripted kiss on the cheek. While this seems like no big deal by today’s standards, that scene definitely had tongues wagging back in its day. Coupled with Archie’s overt bigotry toward minorities, the surprise became an iconic TV moment.

Sometimes an off-the-cuff unscripted kiss is a great idea and really adds to the scene. Sometimes, it definitely isn’t and doesn’t. On our list of impromptu smooches that didn’t make the cut is one that happened between Woo stars Tommy Davidson and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Tommy decided to try to spice up a scene by going in for a surprise kiss from Jada. However, she completely recoiled from it. To make matters even worse, Will Smith, the film’s director and Jada’s husband went ballistic on Tommy. In fact, the two almost came to blows over the incident, proving that sometimes you should just stick to the script.

Grey’s Anatomy

There are no shortages of passionate kisses in the long-running medical TV drama, Grey’s Anatomy. One of the best unscripted kisses, however, happens in the finale episode of the 14th season. Camilla Luddington, who played Jo Wilson lands a light-hearted and goofy kiss on both Alex Carev (Justin Chambers) and Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw).

Camilla revealed to fans on Twitter that the entire scene was unscripted. In a hilarious quip, she stated, “It was unscripted, but I thought “hello?!!! Who wouldn’t want to also smooch Arizona Robbins?” Fans ate it up.

Parenthood

In the third-to-last episode of Parenthood, Joel (Sam Jaeger) and Julia (Erika Christensen) play estranged parents who finally reconcile with a touching kiss shared while at an ice-skating rink with their children. That kiss wasn’t supposed to happen though.

In the script, the two were only supposed to hold hands, but they both agreed that the kiss really made the scene. The reaction shot of the couple’s on-screen children was so realistic and genuine, that it just played out perfectly.

The Persuaders!

In the 1970s, British action-comedy series, The Persuaders!, Roger Moore planted a big, unplanned kiss on fellow actress Valeria Leon, who played a queen from outer space. Moore and Leon had plenty of funny and exciting on-screen chemistry, but a kiss wasn’t written in the cards for them.

While the kiss was completely unplanned, it certainly wasn’t unwelcome, according to Valerie. The actress stated that, “Roger gave me an unscripted kiss. I just closed my eyes and enjoyed it. They kept it in.” We’re pretty sure many actresses would have been okay being kissed by James Bond.

Legends Of Tomorrow

In the fan-favorite sci-fi series, Legends of Tomorrow, superheroes Ava (Jess McCallan) and Sara (Caity Lotz) are battling with an alternative-timeline Rasputin when they decide to make up from yet another of their frequent fights. This time they share an impromptu make-up kiss.

Lotz grabs McCallan, dips her dramatically, and lands a big fat kiss right on her lips. The improvised moment totally made the scene all the better and the producers decided to leave it in.

Glee characters Blaine and Kurt first meet in the beginning of Season 2 of the show when Kurt visits Dalton Academy and witnesses The Warblers sing an amazing rendition of “Teenage Dream.” The two develop a somewhat complicated relationship throughout the season that culminates with a touching and daring kiss that solidifies the two as a couple.

That kiss came as a touching and memorable surprise to many of the fans of the show. Considering the actors were so young, it was a well-performed and very poignant moment.

The Sons of Anarchy was a show ahead of its time in terms of confronting social norms and pushing the envelope. While there was no shortage of controversial and surprising content, one of the best scenes involved the unforgettable Venus Van Dam (Walter Goggins).

Venus Van Dam is a foul-mouthed transgender prostitute. In one scene with Jax (Charlie Hunnam), the Venus leaned seductively into him and whispered, “Just trust me,” then gives him a soft and gentle kiss that was completely unscripted and surprised the you-know-what out of Hunnam.

Once Upon A Time

An on-screen romantic undercurrent existed for characters Emma and Hook from the moment they met in Once Upon a Time, but the two characters struggled to acknowledge it.  With a rocky start to their relationship and several less-than-positive interactions throughout, a romance between them seemed unlikely.

So, fans were pleasantly surprised when the two locked lips in the third season. There’s always something a little extra exciting about a hot kiss between the resident good girl and the shady bad boy.

The comedy New Girl, has plenty of impromptu and improvised kisses between characters. Scripting a surprise kiss is sometimes a little harder, however. Fans of the show had been wondering if housemates Nick and Jess were ever going to get together.

They got denied again during a scene in which the gang is playing a game of True American, and at one point, they’re supposed to kiss, according to the game’s rules. Nick refuses and leaves a confused Jess alone.  The surprise comes not long after, when the two are having a late-night chat and Jess turns to go back to her room. Nick grabs her and pulls her in for the kind of passionate kiss he really wanted to give her.
